Married for over forty-five years, they know a few things about keeping a marriage alive. In addition, they still enjoy writing together and spending time in each other's company. In their couples' retreats, they share a few of the things they've learned through the years. These are designed as three-day (Friday night through Sunday noon) events. However they can be adapted for shorter timeframes.
...Like a Child - Based on Mark 10:15 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all," this magical weekend will allow you to get in touch with your child of wonder, curiosity, and delight, and to share that child with your spouse's child.
Beyond the Mask - We all wear them, and they serve a purpose. Learn to identify when and why you choose to hide behind yours, and make decisions about sharing your authentic self with your partner. Based on John 16:13 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."
How's Your Stuff? - Do you own your stuff or does it own you? Inspired by George Carlin's "A Place for my Stuff" and Luke 12:22-24 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!"
The Gift of Love - Some people have trouble giving gifts. In many couples, this is a source of conflict. Based on Proverbs 19:6 "Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of a man who gives gifts." and several other texts, this retreat addresses our relationship to gifts and helps spouses understand their beloved's.
